Trekking San Marino
The best natural itineraries and hiking trails in San Marino
The most authentic way to discover San Marino? On foot. Mount Titano is crossed by trails that wind through woods, past rock faces and up to viewpoints over the Romagna coast. Here are our favourite routes, suited both to seasoned walkers and to anyone looking for a gentle stroll.
The Cliff Trail (Sentiero della Rupe)
From Borgo Maggiore it climbs up to the historic centre on a staircase carved into the rock, with ever wider views over the valley. A sporty alternative to the cable car, to be walked at your own pace.
Difficulty: moderate · Best time: morning or late afternoon
The Witches’ Path and the Three Towers
The walkway between the First and Second Tower, perched above the drop, offers the most iconic view of San Marino. Carrying on through the woods you reach the Third Tower, the Montale, away from the crowds.
Difficulty: easy · Best time: at sunset
Following the old Rimini–San Marino railway
The electric train that linked the coast to Mount Titano in the 1930s lives on today as a walking route through tunnels, over bridges and past views of the valley. A dive into history, also ideal for families.
Difficulty: easy
Beyond Mount Titano
From the farmhouse you can quickly reach the Marecchia Valley and the villages of San Leo and Verucchio, with routes among fortresses, badlands and vineyards. Ask us for a map: we will suggest the right route for you.
Before you set off
- Wear hiking boots or shoes with a good grip: many stretches are on stone.
- Always carry water, especially in summer.
- After your walk, a dip in our pool is the perfect reward.
