The Medieval Days of San Marino

San Marino organises, at the end of July, the “Medieval Days”. You will see the city go back in time with elegant medieval ladies, knights and flag hurlers!

On the last weekend of July, Mount Titano dives into the past.

The city centre is home to the Medieval Days, a historical pageant very much appreciated by locals and tourists alike. For the occasion, people in costume, street artists, music and duels fill the streets of the old part of town.

For three evenings, history surprises and surrounds you, bringing you back to medieval San Marino, with its crenelated towers and the endless struggle to defend itself from the attacks by the Malatesta family.

Don’t miss the unique performances held every year at the Cava dei Balestrieri (Crossbowmen’s quarry). Opened in the nineteenth century to extract the stone needed for the restoration works of the Public Palace, the pit hosts, during the Medieval Days, crossbow competitions (A crossbow is an ancient weapon shooting quarrels or bolts typical of Medieval times).

San Marino Medieval Days’ Program is packed with events, live shows and performances. It is therefore the right moment of the year to take a stroll in the ancient city centre and admire the costumes and traditions of 14th to 16th century Italy.

Don’t miss the medieval menus in the city centre’s restaurants, featuring medieval-inspired recipes.
