The old railway of San Marino

An historical railway, originally connecting Rimini-San Marino, set out in 1930s. It stopped operating after heavy bombing in WWII and it can now be visited by following the path leading to the Educational Arboretum.

The Three Towers of San Marino

Guaita, Cesta and Montale are the names of the three massive towers looking over the valley, on top of Mount Titano. In the past, they were of strategic and defensive value for the Republic of San Marino, especially when fighting back the attacks by the powerful Malatesta family from Rimini. They dominate over the overhang and, perched on Mount Titano, feature prominently in the city skyline.

Piazza della Libertà and the Changing of the Guard

The Guardia di Rocca, the city guard, performs the traditional Changing of the Guard in summer months. The uniform worn by the guards is a special one, of Napoleonic origin, featuring a dark green double-breasted jacket, red trousers with green stripe, and the traditional kepi cap.
